Celebrating Dr. Seuss
March 2 is the birthday of Dr. Seuss, American author of classics like The Cat in the Hat and One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. Celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday will create memories for your family, impress fun rhyming words to your child, and make for a fun day. If you’re not sure how to celebrate, then give these ideas a try.
Dine on green eggs and ham
Determine once and for all if you “do not like green eggs and ham.” Adding a few drops of food coloring to scrambled eggs or dyeing hard boiled eggs along with some ham will make for a memorable breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
Create your own rhyming story
Visit PBS Kids for finger puppets ready to print and cut out. They can tell the story or create your own rhyming story with the Cat in the Hat, Thing 1, and Thing 2.
Explore fritillary flowers
Take a look at these Dr. Seuss looking flowers called fritillaries. Some look like a miniature palm tree and others look like checkered tulips. If you head to any garden shows, then keep your eyes open for these unusual flowers. Some stand 3 feet tall!
Make it a movie night
Gather the family and make it a movie night. Dr. Seuss wrote a number of books that have been turned into big screen blockbusters like The Lorax, Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch, and The Cat in the Hat.
Read!
Make reading a habit in your household by reading each day for twenty minutes. The time doesn’t have to be in one big block but can be scattered throughout the day. Dr. Seuss wrote over sixty children’s books that you’ll have so many to choose from like Cat in the Hat, One Fish Two Fish, Green Eggs and Ham, Hop on Pop, and Fox in Socks.
