A Fresh Fundraising Idea
Is your school, daycare, sports team, youth group or organization looking for a new fundraising idea? Is it hard to find volunteers to distribute order forms, send reminder emails, collect the order forms, collect the money, send another reminder email to remind people to send in their order forms and money, enter the orders in the computer, sort the items, and pass out the items?
If so, let SpeechWorks help.
Before a speech-language pathology test is published, the publishing company develops and tests it to make sure it measures what it is supposed to. This process involves giving the test to thousands of individuals of different ages, abilities, geographic regions, and ethnic backgrounds throughout the United States.
SpeechWorks works with the publishing companies to give the tests and collect data. The tests can take anywhere from 15-30 minutes. Depending on the test, the participant may be manipulating objects, repeating words, naming pictures or pressing a screen on an electronic tablet. Results of the tests are not available to SpeechWorks and are not meant to provide any speech-language diagnosis.
Many publishing companies offer a financial incentive to the individuals participating and to the organizations who are able to provide numerous participants. That’s where you come in. Your organization would partner with SpeechWorks and the test publisher to find participants, help obtain parental/guardian permission and have a site available where testing can take place.
Every test asks for a different group of individuals to test. They typically need individuals of various ages (often 2-21), ethnic backgrounds, abilities (those with and without speech-language/hearing disorders), and parental educational levels (less than high school to graduate school).
If you’ve ever been on a college campus, you may have seen signs for psychology or sociology labs looking for test subjects. That’s basically what this is. Instead of using the money for gasoline or pizza, your organization can use it to purchase equipment, materials, technology, or whatever is on your wish list.
